Scandinavian Journal of Urology has taken a step towards the future of scientific publication by converting to an open access publication model.
Scand J Urol has now shifted to a continuous online open access publication that is reached through our new website (1). From now on there will be no paywall, no subscription fees, and no print issues.
This means that Scand J Urol will be accessed and read by a wider audience than with the previous subscription-based model. For our authors this entails an increased availability of their articles with an ensuing increased chance of citations.
To cover the costs associated with publication there will be a publication charge, ‘APC; article processing charge’, paid by authors or their institution.
The conversion to open access is in line with the international development of scientific publishing, driven amongst others by cOAlition S, a consortium of research funding organisations (2), and in Sweden the BIBSAM consortium (3).
We welcome you to have a look around our new journal website (1). There you will find information about the journal, our revised author instructions, our new guidelines for reviewers, information on publication charges (APC) and a link to the archive of previous issues of Scand J Urol with Taylor & Francis.
On the website you can also find information about our new publisher; Medical Journals Sweden (MJS), a small company working with a nonprofit ethos, with its editorial office in Uppsala, Sweden. In addition to Scandinavian Journal of Urology MJS is also publisher for five other open access healthcare journals; the Journal of Rehabilitation Medicine, Journal of Rehabilitation Medicine – Clinical Communications, Acta Dermato-Venerologica, Acta Orthopaedica and as of March 2023 also Journal of Plastic Surgery and Hand Surgery. In addition to moving to a new website, Scand J Urol is also migrating to a new submission and peer review platform; Open Journals System (OJS) (4), which is accessed via the journal website. Should you have any questions or need support in the new system, please just reach out to MJS via our contact page and MJS staff will be happy to assist you.
We welcome all readers to our website and we welcome authors to submit their manuscripts to the new Scandinavian Journal of Urology (1)!
