[125l)hydroxy benzyl pindolol (HYP) was used in a binding assay to compare the number and affinity of beta-adrenergic receptors on circulating lymphocytes from 8 patients with severe atopic dermatitis (AD) and 8 age-matched controls. The number of receptors per lymphocyte (RT) found in the atopic group (856? 132) was not statistically different from that of the controls (702?107). By contrast, the dissociation constant (KD) was significantly higher in patients with AD (KD =20.8?3.3x10-11 M) than in controls (KD=12.6?3.45 x10-11 M). The results thus indicate that lymphocyte beta-adrenergic receptors from patients with AD have a lower affinity for HYP than those of controls.Downloads
