Endodontic materials comprise pulp capping materials used to maintain the vitality of the pulp, irrigants and intracanal medicaments used for disinfection, and materials to obturate the root canal(s). Depending on the diagnosis, the goal of the treatment is pulp preservation, removing inflammation and infection, restoring destroyed periapical tissue, and preventing reinfection. The vast number of materials have both biological and clinical implications for the patient. Potential topics for this article collection include but are not limited to the following:

  • Materials for pulp regeneration
  • Bioactive materials
  • Retrograde filling materials
  • Sealing ability of endodontic materials
  • Biological effects of irrigants
  • Longevity of endodontic treatments
  • Surgical vs nonsurgical endodontic treatment
  • Rotary instruments with various concepts
  • Computer-guided endodontics
